Mini-Split Installation and Setup
The typical mini-split has between two and four zones. A single-zone mini-split system is an option for customers who need only one indoor unit. That can save you money if you don’t need the system to be scalable. Most multi-zone mini-splits support up to eight indoor units. For larger homes that need more than that, there are options. One solution is to install multiple outdoor compressor units in a series to accommodate the additional heads.
There are many indoor installation options, and you can mix and match them throughout your home. The standard option is wall units. Modern wall units are compact, and we can install them near the ceiling to save valuable wall real estate. We offer floor units for areas with minimal wall and ceiling space, such as finished attics. Ceiling options include suspended units and cassette models, which install flush against the surface. That provides a clean look that many homeowners prefer. There are also dropdown cassettes with vents on all four sides. They’re ideal in large, open-layout areas, such as kitchens and living rooms.
Most systems have onboard thermostat controls for each indoor unit. We can also provide wall-mounted smart thermostats in strategic areas of the home for full system access. Manufacturers often provide remotes for each indoor unit. Many systems have Wi-Fi capabilities for remote access and control. App-based support lets you control the system from your phone whether on the couch or in your office at work.
There are many other features to consider. Mini-splits for humid climates will often have a dry mode, which slows the air circulation to allow for more evaporation. Self-cleaning mini-splits can help avoid microbial growth on the indoor evaporator coils. Some systems have automatic airflow direction adjustment. This prevents air from blowing directly on people. You can also use the feature to keep the air on you, such as when working out.
Consider looking for the ENERGY STAR label when choosing your mini-split. High-efficiency systems cost more initially but can save significant money over the years. Additionally, there are often rebates and other incentives to help offset the initial added costs.
